Journey from banking career to running 400km races
Theo Brikas lost his banking career, then ran 400km in seven days on 20 minutes of sleep a night. He tells the room how the second came out of the first.
True resilience isn't built when things go according to plan, it's made in the moments after everything falls apart.
Before he was conquering hundreds of kilometers of brutal terrain, Theo Brikas sat at a crossroads. After losing his top position in the high-stakes world of investment banking, the life he had painstakingly built suddenly was gone. The crisis was immediate, heavy, and deeply personal. Staring into an uncertain future, Theo knew he had two choices: let failure define his narrative, or use it as the driving force to rebuild himself.
He chose to run. Not running away, but trail running, not just as exercise, but as a sanctuary. On the lonely, punishing mountain trails, he found a canvas for self-discovery. But the road back to purpose was far from easy. In ultra-marathon running, physical capacity is only half the battle; the rest is an unforgiving mental game. In his first four major events, Theo failed to reach the finish line. "Did Not Finish" became a recurring nightmare as injuries struck and his mental strength gave out.
The low point came when his own daughter asked him the question that cut deeply: "Why do you keep going back? You're not making it either way, why try again?"
That question could have ended his journey. Instead, it became his ultimate drive. Theo realized that giving up would validate every failure he had ever experienced. The trails were no longer just about endurance; they were about proving that he possessed the grit to control his own destiny.
The turning point arrived during a brutal six-day ultra-marathon. Days into the event, with miles left to cover, Theo's knees began to swell painfully. The race doctor stepped in with a clear directive: Stop.
In that moment, the memories of his collapsed banking career flared up. In his corporate life, circumstances had stripped away his control. Here, on the trail, bleeding and battered, the choice belonged to him alone. Looking the doctor in the eye, Theo made his stance clear: There is no way I am stopping. Never. He pushed through unimaginable pain, mastered his mind, and finally crossed the finish line.
That single breakthrough unlocked a legendary level of persistence. Recently, Theo accomplished what most human minds can barely comprehend: completing a grueling 7-day, 400-kilometer ultra-marathon with 27,000 meters of elevation, all while sleeping an average of just 20 minutes a day. He proved that when the body breaks, the human spirit can take over.
Today, that unbreakable mindset defines every area of Theo's life. He rebuilt his career from scratch, founding his own successful financial practice where he helps clients navigate strategic investments and secure their financial futures with the same unwavering discipline he brings to the mountains. Failure didn't ruin Theo Brikas, it created him.
